Upcoming Events
- Ministry Signup- Due THIS Thursday 22nd
The deadline for signing up is this Thursday, January 22nd. Please be sure to get your forms in so that we can compile them for our Parish Meeting. Here is the LINK – Thank you
- Parish Meeting- January 25th
Our Annual Parish meeting will be held immediately after the worship service. Lunch will be provided.
- Bishop’s Episcopal Visit- March 1st
Bishop Hill will be with us on Sunday, March 1st for his annual episcopal visit. During this service Mei-li will be set apart for the lay order of Deaconess and Deborah Dix will be confirmed. In addition, we will have a pot-luck dinner in honor of Bishop and Mrs. Hill. This promises to be a very exciting, encouraging, and action-packed Sunday! Be sure to mark it on your calendar and plan to attend.
Epiphany- What and Why
Epiphany is a major feast of the Church year and is celebrated each year beginning on January 6th. Remember, the major feasts on our calendar are a big deal because they point to and renew our focus on some major aspect of the redemption that Christ accomplished for us. Thus our service is drawn from Scripture and drives us back to Scripture. Notice then Epiphany celebrates the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. As such, it underscores God’s love for the world and His faithfulness to His promise to send a redeemer for all mankind.
In fact, Epiphany is literally the Christmas of the gentiles. It is the reminder that what God did in the manger He did for us as well. Epiphany then is when we get to the Christmas party.
At the same time, Epiphany also reminds us that we are the witnesses who are to carry that Gospel out into the world. Notice then it is traditional that the Christ Candle, the Christmas tree, and all your decorations and lights remain up and are put away on Epiphany. Why? It is not that we are taking the lights down and moving on. Rather, it is that we quite literally are the Christmas lights (proclaiming, celebrating, and shining forth the good news that unto us a Savior is born).
2026 Liturgical Calendars- Are In
The liturgical calendars for 2026 are in. You may pick one up in the in the parish hall on the church information table. The cost is $5.00
The calendar shows the liturgical color for each season, the major celebrations, as well as the saint or martyr commemorated on any given day. As such, you can use the calendar as an important aspect of your devotional life.
In fact, You can read about a particular saint on the day they are remembered and reflect upon their example (see the “Lives of the Saints” feature on our web page). You will be alerted to important events in the church year (such as the Transfiguration) and can use the collect and readings found in the Prayer Book for that day in your own devotional time.
Another good resource to use in conjunction with the calendar is Omer Englebert’s book, Lives of the Saints which follows along chronologically through each day of the month giving a well-balanced description of the particular Saints and their ministries being remembered on that day. You can find a copy here for a very reasonable price: LINK
Regardless, the liturgical calendar is a wonderful devotional tool and one that I recommend to each family in the church.
